Microsoft PDC 2010 KL: An exploration of KLCC@Microsoft Auditorium?

PDC, Professional Developer Conference, is the Microsoft annually definitive developer's conference where various developers will gather to learn about Microsoft's latest technologies, share their own expertise and explore the new products that Microsoft have launched year to year.

And the shimmer of PDC incessantly leaps its stride to this year, PDC 2010. Instead of garthering all the enthusiastic developers from every piece of the world to Redmond, Washington where the PDC 10' going to be held. Microsoft provides more ways than ever before for us to experience the Professional Developer’s Conference closer to home. Microsoft is working with Microsoft offices, academic institutions, and 3rd parties around the world to provide us the opportunity to attend a PDC10 event near to us by using the broadcasting and live streaming technology through internet.

Of course, Microsoft Malaysia is on the list to bring this splashy event descends upon our town. As one of the Microsoft Malaysia TechNet subscribers, I was pleased to have this precious opportunity to be a part of this local event but also seize on this chance to have a first and fresh exploration of Microsoft Auditorum located in Pertonas Twins Tower Level 29.

Hence, what we learnt from PDC 2010?

-Internet Explorer 9, the next major milestone of IE after undergoing an obvious period of losing big fraction of browser market because of the more gratifying Google Chrome and Firefox. IE 9 going to be ablaze again with the devastating support for HTML5, ever better API system and developer-approached modification.

-Windows Phone 7, a revolutionary mobile phone platfrom which going to potentially stack up against Apple iOS, Google Android with its ever amazing and user-friendly GUI, integrated consumer-demanded functions, the most simpliest and distinctive developer tools, Marketplace(The next Apps Store?) and even more fascinating privileges.

-Windows Azure, the pioneer of providing a flexible cloud-computing platform that lets you focus on solving business problems and addressing customer needs. We all know, building out an infrastructure that supports our web service or application can be expensive, complicated and time consuming. It turns out that cloud computing gradually comes to the limelight as the stronger demand from customers. Windows Azure is the easiest solution of cloud computing aiming to provide users to manage their web service in an ever-efficient way. Building out the network to support your peak times. Getting the right servers in place at the right time, managing and maintaining the systems.

6th MICSS Science Camp 2010

I wound up my second time MICSS Science Camp experience last week at Keat Hwa High School, Alor Setar. But this was a totally revolutionary experience for me as a team leader. Instead of striving prizes as a participant, I can fully indulged myself with the high spirit of learning and sharing science without any pressure.

Alright, the whole story starting with a ruthless twelve-hour bus traveling. Diverging from the previous MICSS Science Camp which more focused on particular science field, "Shine like the sun" is the theme of 6th MICSS Science Camp. This unusual theme began to dawn on me that there would going to show us something difference.

First of all, it was the time to let all the participants warmed up for the exciting five-day science camp. As usual, participants divided into few groups and each groups in charged by a team leader. After went through the formal introducation, I got the strong intention to lead my team to be the most co-operative and enthusiastic team. This idea came to realization when the energy of my team members was feverishly ablaze in the warm-up game with overwhelming performance. Yup, this was just the start of 6th MICSS Science Camp.

Team Three, We were number one!

The next morning was the major session of the science camp - renowned professor's lecture. And this year, we were in such a pleasure to welcome Prof. Jiun-Huei Wu from National Taiwan University, Prof. Chi-Ching Chang from MingDao University and Prof. Bei-Chang Yan from National Cheng Kung University. Prof. Jiun-Huei Wu was the right first to hit the stage. His tremendous personal fascination immediately captivated all of us fully dug into his lecture. He brought along the hottest 3D technology in his presentation to provide us with a visually innovative experience of enjoying presentation. Yet, the theme of his lecture covering from the origin of universe to the discovery of dark matter absolutely was my favorite taste! Excellent!

Excursion was the new program that available in 6th MICSS Science Camp. We had a wonderful journey hopping from Alor Setar harbor to Rice Museum and gathering at Rice Mill. Obviously, meaningful but exhausted.

Next, Prof. Chi-Ching Chang took over the second stage. Before his lecture started, I approached toward him to seize on this opportunity to thanks for his zeal to assist my secondary school (Chong Hwa High School) develop the solar power energy. You're simply awesome. At the beginning of his lecture, he talked about the history and the development of solar energy and very sorry that it really made me slowly snored to glory at that time. But things came better when he mentioned the "important part" of his lecture: holography technology! And yet he also proposed to bring holography technology in collaborate with solar power to reinvent an ever-better solar power battery! Indeed, this futuristic idea indisputably made a deep impression to me and I found there are something new to me to go with^^

Prof. Chi-Ching Chang & Me

Third, our honorable Prof. Bei-Chang Yan. He was more willing to talk about the precise attitude of probing science rather than extending to the recondite academic field - Yes,I think most of the youth need that. Here got an interesting website to recall back his lecture: 杨倍昌的家

Definitely, Dr.Chong's "Show Time" was invaluable and indispensable to the science camp. Once again, Dr.Chong brought along his favorite water rocket workshop spiced up our interest of learning science. His humorous and engaging speech simply made all the participants burst out laughing throughout the workshop. Science is not just limited in books. Dr.Chong was so energetic to hast around to ensure us fully enjoyed the fun of playing water rocket and super giant size bubble. Robin, Dr.Chong really need your help :D .The absence of the star-gazing party really put a damper on me - I think most of you were also holding the same disappointment.

Dr.Chong: "Our USM water rocket record is 3mins 37secs! Wao!!"

Dr.Chong: "3,2,1,0..MICSS Science Camp go!!"

Dr.Chong with his Super Bubble!

In the last session of science camp: poster presentation. Participants gradually became vehement and proactive in poster preparation. Without the pressure of preparing poster, I enjoyed the joyfulness of conveying my prespective and criticism to participants in order to make their poster as competitive as possible. Participants' creativity and potential were fully ablaze in this platform.

Overall, I was glad to witness that my team ended up with one silver medal and one experiment award. (I thought they can be better :P). You guys were so impressive to me. By the way, one of my secondary school representative- Jiunn Hao won one silver medal, you made us proud!^^

Ultimately, 6th MICSS Science Camp, where amazing happen. It was a platform to gather a sea of young talents who holding the same interest in science. Thus, throughout the camp we were given the chance to learn and even discuss various recent scientific issues and topics each others and also with inspirational and idealistic scientists. We were able to explore and discuss together these issues which were not bounded by any textbook syllabus or tests assessments, but as the endless research of the pure science. These have somehow strengthened our fundamental knowledge in science, and also giving us a best chance to truely explore yourself in science research. One month plus later, I will be one of the Malaysia representative to Asian Science Camp 2010 at Mumbai, India. I am undergoing a tough preparation for it at this moment. Wish all the best to me!

YOUTH'10 - For Youth,By Youth

Following the successful Youth'08,Youth'09, now, the Malaysia's Largest Youth Festival-Youth'10 descended upon our town once again!

There are some stories behind Youth'10...

On a rainy October Sunday in 2007, a few young Malaysians thought it would be good for friends and followers to meet up. Breakdancers, bands, student entrepreneurs...different groups to gather and showcase their passion. For these young Malaysians, it was the beginning of an idea.

The simple idea reached leaders of other youth communities. The idea also reached a group of major sponsors. And soon enough, the idea reached realization. Malaysia's First Youth Lifestyle Showcase, YOUTH'08 was held across 3 days in PWTC in January 10th, 2008,bringing together over 100 activities, and 21,000 youths from all walks of life under one roof. A platform only made possible by youths for youths. For these young Malaysians, it was the beginning of something real.

More communities, businesses, leaders, and government support came in for YOUTH'09. Larger place, higher energy, and on a much larger scale. This time, over 300 volunteers, street promotion teams, and youths themselves invited friend of friends, gathering 36,720 youths to PWTC in January 2009. For these young Malaysians, it was the beginning of a movement.

So what's in store for YOUTH'10? It begins with the fundamentals: How youths engage with brands, leaders, government and society. The festival has proven - that with this level of collaboration, anything can happen. This is why for YOUTH'10, high relevance additions - such as the Understanding Youth Conference for parents and "Marketing With Youth" Conference for businesses - are put in place to further help youths engage with brands, leaders and society.

After all, for Malaysian youths, this is the beginning of their future.

EYLN 2010 Experience Sharing

Well, I am continually scraping up the piece of my whole dream jigsaw puzzle. I undertook my wonderful three days with EYLN 2010 in UKM last week. Unforgettable and meaningful. Following the magnificent Youth Engagement Summit 2009, EYLN 2010 once again pierce through my mind with urdent passion.

The EYLN stand as Entrepreneurship & Youth - A Learning Network. Literally, this is one of the Malaysia Young Entrepreneur Conference for the purpose of gathering the whole nation youth who are feverishly interested in developing entrepreneurship. This year, EYLN 2010 had been organized by AIESEC UKM and set up the theme of "Green Entrepreneurship".

Ok, let's story start with some grumbles:
Day one, the starting time of the conference is between 7.30am and 8.30am. Hence, in order to meet up the time, I took the midnight train from my hometown, Kluang, all the way alone went straight to KL Central which estimated would be arrived there at 6.30am. Our "High Class" KTM really eager to provide us with better service, it delayed four hours throughout the journey. No doubt, I finally arrived at KL Central at 10.30am and KTM Komuter took me one hour again to get to National Unverisity of Malaysia(UKM) where the venue of conference.

Alright, that's it.

Yes, I am lated. I missed out the opening ceremony and the first talk.

This was the first scence appeared in my sight once I finally got into the conference's hall. After few minute, I ensconced myself in the hall's flatbed seat and started to enjoy the lecture. First, there was Nazril Idrus from LVG Consultants. As a professional financial fortress coach, he was using his fascinating tongue to convey the concept of financial intelligence. What is financial intelligence? In other words, that's mean how to manage the finance intelligently(Joke :P Haha). As a future potential entrepreneur, we must know how to effectively manage our money, debt and also property.

Especailly when we are going to make a debt, we need to accurately distinguish between the good debt and bad debt. For instance, university tuition fee is absolutely a good debt. We loan to fulfil our university courses and it's inevitably a good investment as it provides us with more professional knowledge as well as social skills which will be useful while we fully trap into competitive society. Reversely, making debt on buying luxurious gadgets will definitely makes no sense to put burden on our shoudler.

Secondly, Nazril Idrus gave out an impressive point of view. "Invest you money early" When you starting invest your money or saving your money on the younger age, you will take advantage on gaining more experience and capital.

After a lunch break, we warmly welcomed our next speaker: Puan Chan Cheong - the founder of Green Packet Inc.

As one of the Malaysia best entrepreneur, He was sharing his splendid and successful entrepreneurial experience to us. CC.Puan quoted an inspirable definition of entrepreneurship on the starting of his talk:

"Entrepreneurship is about those who dare to dream the dreams and are foolish enough to try and make their dreams come true"

In the next chapter of his talk, he shared with us some of his key of success:

"Patience and relationship are essential to develop entrepreneurship"
"When you are optimistic, don't over-estimated yourself, remember nothing is simple
"
"When you are discouraged, remember anything is possible
"

Next, there are something that I learnt from Harvestnet Sdn. Bhd..

Nyou Wei Fung, the business director of Harvestnet, said that: As a young generation, we must always "think out of the box", innovation and creativity are what essential to set off your business.

Let's convert Albert Einstein well-known formula E=MC2 into our personal character:

"Energetic=Mass x Creativity x Consistency"

Yes, when you get that three points and bring them together, you will become energetic to go toward building your dream.

Also, Sir Nyou cited out some keys which must be pay attention when we are going to propose a project paper.

The 6Ps key in project paper writing:
Preparation- Market research & viability study
Profile- Background of product,personal
Presentation- Susbtance & Form
Process- Ensure workflow & How to get there
Profitability- S.M.A.R.T
PR- Confidence & Follow up

Mr.Yeoh Chen Chow-Winner of Most Outstanding Youth of 2009(AYA Award).Product Manager of Jobstreet.com.

He stepped on the stage without any computer slide. He used an interactive way to talk about the essence of communication. First, communication is so important to our daily life. In order to success in either business market or society, we must know how to accurately master our language or body language to reveal your idea. Use communication to identify yourself. Only the particular or specific idea will make a deep impression to other people and make people more curious to know about you.

Matthias Gelber
-the greenest person of the world.

"All great achievements, begin with a belief." He said.

It's really come to the tough period that we must be responsible to our mother-Earth.
Our mother getting worse and worse because of our human being insatiable greed. He strongly appealed us-as a young generation, we must take action to this matter and immediately figure out the solution.

We were sharing our joyfulness in the last day.

Overall, here just a small fraction of experience sharing of the EYLN 2010, there were more boundless spirit that couldn't convey by limited words. What's more, I always hold the belief that the more people you meet, the more inspiration you get. Except just get learning from a sort of fiery speaker, enjoying the conversation with a sea of talent from different background was absolutely impressive. It's help you to expand your social network and you will be able to exposed yourself into wide-ranging of experience sharing.

Ultimately, pessimistic is no longer exist, if you really and fully explore your life, don't seal up yourself in just a little small box, go ahead and dare to do what you dream to do.
